About Our Library

The Escobedo Library Media Centeroffers many resources and services to enhance each student’s educational experience, promote information literacy and supports the common core standards for a 21st century education.

Print Resources: The Escobedo Library Media Center houses over 25,900 books worth over $518,000. Fifty-eight percent of these reading materials are non-fiction books with informational text about people, places, events and cultures that support our math, English, reading, electives, science, and social studies classes. The other forty-two percent of our collection includes fiction novels in various reading lexile levels and genres. According to a TitleWise Collection Analysis done 8/14/19 the recommended number of titles per student in a library collection is 2 and we are fortunate to have 24.6 per student. Our collection contentiously grows through CCSD funds that are allotted to the school library and funds earned through bookfairs. Mrs. Baca is constantly on the lookout for new titles to add to the collection. Make sure to stop in and suggest middle school appropriate books that you would like to see added.

Digital Resources:Students have access to 18 desktop computers, 2 laptop computers, 13 Barnes and Noble Nooks, 12 Chromebooks and 30 iPads for their online learning and research needs. They can use them to access the internet software programs, word processing, desktop publishing, and video/photo editing assignments.Web based programs are also an option to our 21st century learners and allow them to create digital projects from home or school through the use of an account. We have a growing eBook collection that students access through Follett Shelf (currently over 225 eBooks). New last year, we have added two 55 inch Smart TV’s with Huddle Spaces that allow up to 8 devises to connect to the TV’s for collaborative projects. These TV’s are nestled around horseshoe tables to make it even easier. *Two years ago (thanks to a grant Mrs. Baca applied for) we have a 75 inch AVer CP Series interactive display and a Chromebook. Click the link to learn more about it AVer Interactive Display.

Databases:The library subscribes to several online databases which can be accessed throughdirect links in the Pages sectionwith the use of a password. Students are given username/password sheets in the Escobedo library. Our onlinedatabases come fromscholarly sourcesand include information from newspapers, references, magazines, books and journals.Pleaseuse these resourcesfor any research and learningneeds at school or at home.

Bookfairs: The library hosts two bookfairs per school year. At the beginning and the end of the year we have a Scholastic Bookfair in the Escobedo library.
